8 Tips for Feeding Electrode Paste into Submerge Arc Furnaces

As production proceeds in the submerged arc furnace, the self-baking electrodes are consumed, resulting in a reduction in the power of the electric furnace. To restore power, the electrodes need to be lowered. Before lowering, check whether there are any debris on the electrode to prevent it from getting

stuck and damaging the electrode shell; Check the electrode paste surface, the paste pressure is too low and the electrode cannot be lowered immediately, electrode paste needs to be added first.

The following are things to note when adding electrode paste:

(1) The work of adding electrode paste is handled by professionals designated by the production department to ensure the safety of the three-phase electrodes and the normal operation of the electric furnace.

(2) The paste adding procedure is: first measure the height of the paste column and determine the amount of paste added to each phase electrode. After the addition of materials is completed, measure and record the height of the paste column truthfully and carefully.

(3) In order to prevent and avoid hanging material accidents, the particle size of the electrode paste should not be too large.

(4) The electrode paste must be kept clean and dry. If there is a lot of dust, it can be blown with air. If necessary, it can be cleaned with water. However, the cleaned electrode paste must be dry before adding it. To prevent dust from falling into the electrode shell, the electrode shell cover should be kept normally closed state.

(5) When adding paste, it should be added vertically from the center of the electrode shell to minimize the impact of the electrode paste on the ribs. It is not allowed to bend or drop the ribs; when adding paste, no other impurities are allowed in the paste. Gloves, tools and other items are not allowed to fall into the electrode shell.

(6) The height of the paste column and the surface condition of the paste column are measures of the paste addition time interval. When the height of the paste column is lower than the specified requirements or the electrode paste around the electrode shell melts slightly, the electrode paste should be added in time. When the paste column is too low and short of paste, a large amount of black smoke or yellow smoke will often appear in the electrode shell.

(7) Workers must be careful not to connect or touch the two-phase electrodes with their bodies or conductive objects during operation.

(8) After an electrode accident occurs, the electrode paste should be flexibly added and added in a timely manner as needed under the guidance of relevant personnel. It must be ensured that the height of the paste column complies with the process and technical operating procedures and meets the usage requirements.
